Ben LaMar Gay will perform at Holliday Park in Indianapolis on August 11, 2026. Gay is a Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser whose music blends elements of jazz, spirituals, experimental music, and Black American musical traditions. His work often incorporates spoken word and explores themes of history, spirituality, and social justice. He frequently utilizes the cornet as a central instrument but also incorporates other brass instruments and electronic effects.

Holliday Park, established in 1916, is a 91-acre public park located in Indianapolis’s north side. Originally the estate of John & Edith Holliday, it was gifted to the city with stipulations regarding its preservation as a natural space. The park features wooded areas, walking trails, and the prominent Holliday Park Ruins – remnants of the original Holliday residence designed by architect Pierre LeBrun. These ruins are a significant landmark within the park and often serve as a backdrop for events. The park is managed by the Indianapolis Department of Parks and Recreation and functions as a community gathering space focused on nature and art. It underwent significant renovations completed in 2014 including a redesigned playground and visitor center.
