Béla Fleck is a fifteen-time Grammy Award-winning banjoist and composer known for his groundbreaking exploration of the instrument’s possibilities. His musical style transcends traditional bluegrass, incorporating elements of jazz, classical, rock, and world music traditions – particularly those of Africa. He frequently collaborates with musicians from diverse backgrounds, pushing the boundaries of banjo performance and composition. Fleck’s work often features complex arrangements and virtuosic playing, demonstrating the banjo's versatility beyond its commonly perceived role.

Scott Hall-Cahn Auditorium resides on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Originally constructed in 1940 as the University’s first dedicated auditorium space, it underwent a significant renovation and expansion completed in 2023. The renovation, led by architecture firm HOK, modernized the venue while preserving its original Art Deco aesthetic. The auditorium now boasts enhanced acoustics, improved accessibility features, and increased seating capacity to approximately 800.

The venue regularly hosts a variety of performances including orchestral concerts, dance recitals, theatrical productions and lectures from prominent speakers. It serves as a central cultural hub for both the university community and residents of Evanston and surrounding areas.
