Experience Barry Douglas live on September 21st
Barry Douglas will perform at Wigmore Hall, London, on September 21, 2026. Douglas is an Irish pianist renowned for his deeply expressive and technically assured interpretations of Romantic and 20th-century repertoire, particularly the works of Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev – winning the Gold Medal at the 1989 International Tchaikovsky Competition performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 – and Shostakovich. His playing is often characterized by a powerful sonority and a lyrical approach that emphasizes emotional depth. He founded the Camerata Ireland orchestra, dedicated to promoting Irish classical music internationally.
Wigmore Hall holds a significant place in London’s cultural landscape. Opened in 1901, originally as the Bechstein Hall – named after the piano manufacturer – it was designed by Henry Saxon Snell and quickly became a favoured venue for chamber music recitals. Throughout its history, it has hosted performances by many of the world’s leading musicians, becoming known for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere which seats approximately 544 people. Unlike larger concert halls, Wigmore Hall maintains a strong focus on solo recitals and chamber ensembles, fostering a uniquely focused listening experience.
