Arun Ghosh will perform at Gosforth Civic Theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne on September 24, 2026. Ghosh is a British composer and clarinetist known for his distinctive approach to jazz, incorporating elements of Indian classical music, folk traditions, and contemporary improvisation. His compositions often explore themes of identity, heritage and social commentary, delivered through intricate melodies and dynamic arrangements. Gosforth Civic Theatre originally opened in 1938 as a supercinema, designed in an Art Deco style by architects Patterson & Son. It served as a popular entertainment venue for the local community for several decades, screening films and hosting variety performances. Following periods of closure and varying uses – including time as a bingo hall – the building underwent a significant refurbishment completed in 2017. The renovation restored many of its original Art Deco features while modernising it to function as a multi-purpose arts centre. Today it hosts theatre productions, live music events, film screenings and community activities, serving as an important cultural hub for the north east of England.
