Auckland Town Hall, completed in 1911, is a significant heritage building in Auckland’s central business district. Designed by architects Parr, Finch & Lamb, it’s a prominent example of Edwardian Baroque architecture. Originally conceived as a multi-purpose venue, it has served as a site for civic events, public meetings, and performing arts presentations throughout its history. The Great Hall within the Town Hall is renowned for its acoustics and ornate interior detailing including a grand organ installed in 1909 by Norman & Beard. It underwent substantial strengthening and restoration work completed in 2011 to ensure its structural integrity and preserve its historical features for future generations. The venue continues to host a diverse range of performances including orchestral concerts, choral works and contemporary music events.
