Art Lande will perform at Samper Recital Hall in Aptos, California on September 27, 2026. Lande is a pianist and composer known for his improvisational approach to jazz and new music, often incorporating elements of world music and extended techniques. His work frequently explores modal jazz, free improvisation, and incorporates influences from diverse musical traditions including Indian classical music and gamelan. He has released numerous albums as a leader and sideman, collaborating with prominent figures in avant-garde and creative jazz.

Samper Recital Hall is located on the campus of Cabrillo College. The hall is designed specifically for acoustic performance and serves as a primary venue for classical music recitals, chamber music concerts, and jazz performances within the local community. It’s known for its intimate setting—approximately 130 seats—and excellent acoustics achieved through careful architectural design focused on sound quality. Originally opened in 1988 following a donation from the Samper family, it has become a significant cultural resource for the Monterey Bay area, hosting both student performances and visiting artists. The hall regularly features performances by faculty members alongside guest musicians.
