Antibalas is a Brooklyn-based Afrobeat ensemble deeply rooted in the traditions of Fela Kuti. Their music blends West African rhythms, jazz improvisation, and funk elements, creating a high-energy, politically charged sound. Formed in 2000, the group gained prominence as a collective of musicians dedicated to continuing Kuti’s legacy and expanding the Afrobeat genre. Antibalas has released several albums to critical acclaim and toured extensively internationally.

The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis originally opened in 1937 as a single-screen movie palace designed in the Art Deco style. Throughout its history, it operated primarily as a cinema, showcasing films for decades. Following periods of decline and closure, the theater underwent significant restoration efforts beginning in 2010.

Reopened in 2017, the Parkway Theater now functions as a multi-purpose venue hosting live music performances, film screenings – maintaining its cinematic roots – and community events. The restored building retains much of its original architectural detail while incorporating modern sound and lighting systems suitable for diverse performances. It is located in the South Minneapolis neighborhood and has become a notable cultural hub within the city.
