Bantry House stands as a significant historical landmark in West Cork. Originally built in 1739 by Richard White, 1st Earl of Bantry, it was extensively remodeled in the 1840s, resulting in the largely Gothic Revival style seen today. The estate’s history is intertwined with the attempted French invasion of Bantry Bay in 1796; the house served as a temporary headquarters for General Hoche during this event. Remaining within the White family for generations, Bantry House opened to the public in 1946 and is known for its impressive architecture, extensive gardens—including a renowned Italian garden—and panoramic views over Bantry Bay.
