Altan is scheduled to perform at The Iron Horse in Northampton, Massachusetts on February 16, 2027. The group is widely recognized as one of Ireland’s most important and innovative traditional music ensembles. Their sound blends traditional Irish tunes with contemporary arrangements, featuring Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh’s distinctive fiddle playing and vocals alongside her husband, Denis Charlton, on guitar and vocals. Altan’s music often incorporates elements of Donegal fiddle style, known for its ornamentation and rhythmic drive, and frequently features Irish language songs.

The Iron Horse Music Hall has been a cornerstone of the Northampton arts scene since it opened in 1979. Originally established as a restaurant with occasional folk music performances, it quickly evolved into a dedicated listening room renowned for showcasing both established and emerging artists across genres including folk, blues, jazz, and Americana. The venue is notably intimate, holding approximately 250 people, fostering a close connection between performers and audience.
