Altan’s music often incorporates elements of Donegal singing style, reflecting the band's origins in County Donegal, Ireland. They have been performing and recording for over four decades, significantly contributing to the international popularity of Irish traditional music.

The Freight, established in 1968, is a renowned venue dedicated to presenting traditional and world music. Originally founded as a cooperative by musicians and fans, it quickly became a central hub for folk, bluegrass, blues, and Celtic music on the West Coast. Located on San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley, The Freight has hosted numerous influential artists throughout its history and is known for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics. It continues to operate as a non-profit organization focused on supporting live music and cultural exchange.
