Originally established in 1958 by Neville Marriner, the Academy has grown from a small group of musicians performing in a church to a globally recognized orchestra celebrated for its interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire, though their performances extend to encompass music from various periods. The Kölner Philharmonie, completed in 1986, is Cologne’s primary concert hall and a significant cultural venue in Germany. Designed by architect Gustav Peichl, it is known for its exceptional acoustics and modern architectural style. The hall houses three separate concert spaces: the Great Hall (Großer Saal) with a capacity of approximately 2,000; the Chamber Music Hall (Kammermusiksaal); and the Beethoven Hall (Beethoven-Saal), dedicated primarily to chamber music performances.
