Experience Tomoko
Tomoko (born Tomoko Kawase, 川瀬 智子, August 29, 1979) is a Japanese singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the vocalist and primary songwriter for the influential Shibuya-kei band Cibo Matto. Initially gaining prominence in the mid-1990s with Cibo Matto’s playful blend of hip-hop, bossa nova, and samples referencing food, Tomoko established a unique vocal style characterized by breathy delivery and melodic phrasing.
Following Cibo Matto’s initial disbandment in 2002, she pursued a solo career releasing the critically acclaimed album *Tomete* (2003), showcasing a more introspective and jazz-influenced sound. She later collaborated with various artists including Sean Lennon, with whom she formed the duo Gomez Comes Alive.
Cibo Matto reformed in 2011, releasing *Hotel Valentine* in 2014 before disbanding again in 2017. Throughout her career, Tomoko has been praised for her lyrical creativity, genre-bending compositions and distinctive artistic vision.
