Experience The Hollywood Four Flames
The Hollywood Four Flames were a highly influential American doo-wop group, active primarily from the mid-1950s through the early 1960s. Originating in Los Angeles, the quartet – initially comprised of James "Jimmy" Edwards, Wilton Grooms, Preston Allen, and Raymond Lewis – achieved regional and national success with their smooth harmonies and sophisticated arrangements.
Initially performing as The Flames before a legal dispute necessitated the “Hollywood” prefix, they signed with Ebb Records in 1957. Their biggest hit, “Try Me,” reached #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959 and remains their signature song. They followed with charting singles like "Hey Little Beauty" and "Since I Found You."
Distinguished by close vocal blending and a polished stage presence, The Hollywood Four Flames bridged the gap between traditional doo-wop and early soul. They toured extensively, often appearing on package shows alongside prominent artists of the era. Personnel changes occurred over time; however, Edwards remained a constant member throughout their active period.
