The Cinematic Orchestra, founded in 1999 by Jason Swinscoe and Nick Webb, is a British instrumental ensemble renowned for seamlessly blending jazz, electronica, and orchestral elements. Initially a club night at the Blue Note in London, it evolved into a recording project releasing its self-titled debut in 2002 to critical acclaim.

Their sound is characterized by lush arrangements, evocative melodies, and frequent use of sampled material alongside live instrumentation – often featuring strings, piano, and drums. Vocal contributions are sparse but impactful, notably from Fontella Bass on their breakthrough track “All Things To All People” (2002).

Albums like *Every Day* (2002) and *Ma Fleur* (2007) solidified their reputation for creating emotionally resonant soundscapes. *To Believe* (2019), their first album in over a decade, featured Patrick Watson and Moses Sumney amongst others and reached #3 on the UK Albums Chart.

The Cinematic Orchestra’s music has been extensively used in film and television soundtracks, including *Amélie* and *The Crimson Tide*. They consistently tour internationally, performing their albums live with full orchestras and guest musicians.
