Experience Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is an acclaimed American blues musician, singer, and songwriter renowned for his soulful blend of blues, jazz, reggae, and world music. Born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks Jr. on May 4, 1942, in New York City, he adopted the stage name Taj Mahal to reflect his interest in Eastern philosophy and musical diversity. Since his debut in the late 1960s, Taj Mahal has been celebrated for revitalizing traditional blues with a modern twist while incorporating influences from Caribbean, African, and Latin American sounds.

Throughout his illustrious career, Taj Mahal has released over 20 albums, earning critical acclaim and multiple Grammy Award nominations. His notable works include *The Natch'l Blues* (1968), *Giant Step/De Old Folks at Home* (1969), and *Taj Mahal* (1968). Known for his virtuosic multi-instrumental skills—particularly on guitar, harmonica, and banjo—he has collaborated with legendary artists like Ry Cooder and Bonnie Raitt. Taj Mahal’s innovative approach has helped preserve and reinvent roots music traditions for new generations.
