Spectra Ensemble is a critically acclaimed British chamber ensemble renowned for their innovative and emotionally resonant performances of 20th and 21st-century music. Formed in 1997 by composer/pianist Philip Cashian, the group initially focused on Pierrot ensembles and has expanded to encompass a diverse instrumentation including flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano and percussion.

Their discography on NMC Recordings features numerous world premiere recordings, notably the complete works for ensemble of Brian Ferneyhough – a project lauded for its meticulous interpretation and technical brilliance. Spectra Ensemble frequently commissions new works, fostering relationships with composers like Michael Finnissy and Howard Skempton.

The ensemble’s performances are characterized by a commitment to clarity, precision, and a profound understanding of complex textures. They’ve been presented at major international festivals including Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, MaerzMusik (Berlin), and Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik.
