Sofia Kourtesis is a Peruvian-born, Berlin-based musical artist who has carved a unique niche in the electronic music scene. Known for her eclectic style, Kourtesis mixes house beats with samples from her South American roots and everyday life to create a distinctive sound that resonates with listeners worldwide.
Kourtesis started her career as a DJ in Lima before moving to Berlin, where she became immersed in the city's vibrant techno scene. Her breakthrough came in 2019 with the release of her self-titled debut EP on Studio Barnhus, which was lauded for its inventive mix of house and techno beats with ambient sounds and vocal samples.
In 2021, Kourtesis released her second EP "Fresia Magdalena" on Ninja Tune's Technicolour imprint. The EP was critically acclaimed for its emotive soundscapes and innovative production techniques, earning Kourtesis widespread recognition as one of the most exciting new talents in electronic music.
Kourtesis' work reflects her commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging conventions. She uses field recordings - from children playing to birds chirping - to add depth and texture to her tracks, creating a sonic tapestry that is both familiar and surprising.
