Experience Sir Charles Jones
Sir Charles Jones (born Charles Edward Jones, December 26, 1942 – December 24, 2022) was an American soul and gospel singer, best known for his 1971 hit “You Don’t Know How Good You Got It.” Initially a gospel performer with the renowned group The Shields of Faith, Jones transitioned to secular soul music after signing with Josie Records in 1970.
His signature sound blended powerful vocals reminiscent of Otis Redding with a raw emotional delivery. “You Don’t Know How Good You Got It” reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B charts, becoming his most enduring success. While he didn't achieve consistent mainstream chart dominance following this hit, Jones remained a highly respected figure within the soul community.
He released several albums throughout the 70s and continued performing live for decades. Later in life, Jones experienced renewed interest thanks to sampling of "You Don't Know How Good You Got It" by artists like Common and Alicia Keys.
