Sinfonietta de Lausanne is a Swiss chamber orchestra renowned for its versatility and dynamic performances. Founded in 1982 by violist Jean-Jacques Roth, the ensemble initially comprised students and young professionals, quickly establishing a reputation for innovative programming. While maintaining a core of Swiss musicians, Sinfonietta de Lausanne regularly collaborates with international artists.

The orchestra’s repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular emphasis on 20th and 21st-century music. They are known for their interpretations of composers like Stravinsky, Bartók, and Unsuk Chin. A defining characteristic is their commitment to commissioning new works, fostering relationships with leading contemporary composers.

Sinfonietta de Lausanne has released numerous recordings on ECM New Series, garnering critical acclaim including Diapason d'Or awards and Gramophone Editor's Choice selections. They frequently perform at major European festivals such as the Lucerne Festival and the Salzburg Festival. Notably, they served as Ensemble-in-Residence at the Cité de la Musique in Paris from 2015-2018 and maintain close ties with conductor Pierre Boulez’s legacy through performance of his compositions.
