Experience salute

Salute, born Darrin James Elledge (October 12, 1973 – November 28, 2023), was an American rapper and record producer hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Initially gaining prominence as one half of the underground hip-hop duo Mantronix with Chris “C-Doc” Dawson in the early 1990s, Salute later embarked on a successful solo career. He was deeply rooted in boom bap production, characterized by raw, sample-heavy beats and intricate drum programming – heavily influenced by DJ Premier and Pete Rock.

His solo work includes critically acclaimed albums like *Modernista* (2006) and *The Recipe* (2010), released on Stones Throw Records. Salute became highly sought after as a producer for other artists, notably crafting significant portions of Blu & Exile’s landmark album *Below the Heavens* (2007). He also produced for artists like Aloe Blacc, Guilty Simpson, and Murs.

Known for his dedication to vinyl sampling and a distinctly soulful aesthetic, Salute remained a consistent force in independent hip-hop until his passing in 2023.
