Experience Robert Cray
Robert Cray is an American blues, soul, and R&B guitarist and singer whose career spans over four decades. Born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1953, Cray initially honed his skills playing in local clubs with his brother Richard and cousin Michael Vernon, forming Robert Cray & His Whooping Cranes in the late 1970s. He gained wider recognition in the 1980s with albums like *Strong Persuader* (1986) and *Don’t Be Angry* (1988), blending traditional blues structures with sophisticated arrangements and a distinctive vocal style.
Cray's music is characterized by smooth, soulful vocals, intricate guitar work influenced by artists like B.B. King and Albert Collins, and a knack for crafting emotionally resonant songs. He successfully bridged the gap between blues purism and mainstream audiences, earning fifteen Grammy nominations – winning one in 1999 for Best Contemporary Blues Recording (*Take Your Shoes Off*).
Throughout his career, he’s collaborated with artists such as Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Bonnie Raitt.
