Peter Williams is a British saxophonist and composer, renowned for his contributions to both jazz and world music. Emerging in the late 1970s, he initially gained prominence with the band Direct Infusion, pioneering a unique blend of jazz fusion with Caribbean and African influences. He subsequently became a key member of Abdullah Ibrahim’s (Dollar Brand) ensemble, touring extensively and appearing on numerous recordings including *Jabula* (1982) and *African River* (1985).

Williams’ solo career, launched in the 1990s, showcases his lyrical improvisations and distinctive tone. His albums, such as *Breath* (1994) and *From Lowest to Highest* (2002), demonstrate a deep exploration of spiritual jazz aesthetics combined with global rhythmic textures. He frequently incorporates elements of South African musical traditions learned during his long association with Ibrahim.
