Pennywise is an American punk rock band formed in Hermosa Beach, California, in 1988. Comprising core members Jim Lindberg (vocals), Fletcher Dragge (guitar), Randy Bradbury (bass), and Byron McMackin (drums – with periods of other drummers), they rose to prominence during the 1990s pop-punk explosion. Their sound blends melodic hardcore with a distinctly Southern Californian vibe, characterized by fast tempos, aggressive guitar riffs, and Lindberg’s recognizable vocal delivery.
Early albums like *Full Circle* (1991) and *Unknown Road* (1993) established their fanbase within the burgeoning punk scene. Breakthrough success arrived with *Self-Titled* (1995), featuring hits like “Bro Hymn” which became an anthem for the band and a staple of skate/surf culture. They continued releasing consistently popular albums throughout the late 90s and 2000s, including *Straight Ahead* (1997) and *Land of the Free?* (1999).
