Experience Os Cariocas
Os Cariocas were a highly influential Brazilian vocal and instrumental ensemble, active from 1942 to 1989. Originating in Rio de Janeiro, the group initially comprised brothers Arnaldo and Jair Amorim, alongside Jorge do Vale and Alaíde Lisboa. Their sound uniquely blended samba, bossa nova, and jazz harmonies, becoming a cornerstone of Brazil’s “Golden Age” of radio and recording.
They gained national prominence in the 1950s through appearances on Rádio Tupi and recordings for Odeon Records. Os Cariocas pioneered close vocal harmony arrangements in Brazilian popular music, heavily influenced by American vocal groups like The Ink Spots but distinctly Brazilianized. Notable hits include "O Calhambeque," "Brasa Dormida," and "Manhã de Carnaval" (from the film *Black Orpheus*).
Throughout their decades-long career, numerous musicians rotated through the group’s lineup, maintaining its signature style. They toured internationally, representing Brazilian music globally and performing with artists like Ella Fitzgerald.
