Meral Polat is a Turkish-Dutch singer and *ud* player renowned for bridging traditional Turkish folk music with contemporary jazz and world music influences. Born in Istanbul and raised in the Netherlands since age five, Polat’s musical journey began with classical Turkish music training under her father, a prominent *kanun* player. She formally studied jazz vocals at the Rotterdam Conservatory, graduating in 2008.

Polat's distinctive style centers around reinterpreting Anatolian folk songs, often in her native Turkish language, while incorporating improvisation and modern arrangements.
