Melbourne Ska Orchestra (MSO) is a highly energetic, 18-piece Australian ska and two-tone band formed in Melbourne in 2003. Led by frontman Kai Owen, originally from the UK, MSO expertly blends traditional Jamaican ska, reggae, and rocksteady with influences from British two-tone revival and a distinctly Australian sensibility.
They’ve built a reputation for their incredibly lively and engaging live performances, often featuring intricate horn arrangements and Owen’s charismatic stage presence. MSO released their debut album *On the Wire* in 2005, followed by *Second Time Around* (2007), *Systematic* (2011), and *Lost City* (2018). *Lost City* notably debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Jazz & Blues chart.
Beyond albums, MSO regularly performs at major Australian festivals like Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival, and have toured internationally including appearances at Boomtown Fair (UK). They’ve received multiple nominations for ARIA Awards in the Best Jazz/Blues Album category.
