Experience Lost State of Franklin
Lost State of Franklin is the musical project of Texan songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Josiah Johnson. Emerging in the late 2000s, the project gained prominence as Johnson’s primary creative outlet following his departure from the acclaimed folk band, The Divine Comedy (not to be confused with Neil Hannon’s band).
Musically, Lost State of Franklin blends Americana, folk, and indie rock influences, characterized by intricate guitar work, layered arrangements, and Johnson’s distinctive, often melancholic vocals. Lyrically, themes of displacement, memory, and American history frequently appear.
The project released its debut album *Electric Blue Motel* in 2011 to critical acclaim. Subsequent releases include *How the West Was Won* (2013) and *Palomino* (2016), both further solidifying a devoted fanbase. Notably, Johnson collaborated extensively with members of Fleet Foxes on these albums; Robin Pecknold co-wrote and provided backing vocals on several tracks.
