Kenny Whitmire is a highly respected, though often under-the-radar, American guitarist renowned for his work in bluegrass, particularly progressive and new acoustic music. Born in 1954, Whitmire’s career blossomed in the 1980s with the Seldom Scene, where he spent over two decades as a core member, significantly shaping their instrumental sound. He's celebrated for his clean, precise flatpicking style – influenced by players like Tony Rice and Clarence White – but developing into something uniquely his own characterized by melodic sophistication and rhythmic drive.

Beyond the Seldom Scene, Whitmire has been a sought-after session musician and sideman, appearing on numerous recordings with artists like Alison Krauss & Union Station, Béla Fleck, and Ricky Skaggs. He’s also released several solo albums showcasing his composing abilities and instrumental prowess including "Between the Notes" (1997) and “Every Time You Say My Name” (2006).
