Johannes Fischer is a highly respected German classical clarinetist, renowned for his virtuosity and expressive interpretations. Born in 1971, he rose to international prominence after winning the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in 1993. This victory launched a solo career marked by performances with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Fischer’s repertoire spans from Mozart and Weber to contemporary composers like Sofia Gubaidulina and Jörg Widmann – the latter with whom he frequently collaborates. He is particularly celebrated for his nuanced phrasing and warm tone, often described as possessing a uniquely lyrical quality. Beyond solo work, Fischer is a dedicated chamber musician, founding the Ensemble Recherche in 1986, a group focused on new music.

He holds a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, nurturing the next generation of clarinetists.
