Jlin, born Jennifer Linn, is an American electronic musician and producer hailing from Gary, Indiana, renowned for her intensely rhythmic and often deconstructed footwork productions. Initially learning music through church organ and later a cracked copy of FruityLoops, Jlin developed a uniquely percussive style largely self-taught. Her breakthrough came with the 2015 EP *Dark Energy*, released on Planet Mu, showcasing her complex polyrhythms and textural sound design.

Jlin’s music deviates from traditional footwork’s vocal samples, focusing instead on abstract sounds and manipulated field recordings. She's described her process as “abstract rhythm” – prioritizing feeling over conventional structure. Subsequent albums like *Black Origami* (2016) and *Auto Detail* (2017) garnered critical acclaim, earning her recognition for pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

Notably, she was commissioned to create a piece for the American Ballet Theatre in 2019, composing original music for choreographer Christopher Wheeldon’s ballet *Off Limits*. Jlin has toured extensively, performing at major festivals globally and collaborating with artists across various genres.
