Hugo Diaz is a highly respected Mexican-American bassist, composer, and educator renowned for his versatile contributions to jazz, Latin jazz, and avant-garde music. Born in Los Angeles, he began his professional career in the 1990s, quickly becoming a sought-after sideman for artists like Poncho Sanchez, Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and Arturo Sandoval.

Diaz’s distinctive style blends a deeply rooted harmonic understanding with exceptional rhythmic precision and improvisational flair. He's proficient in both acoustic and electric bass, often incorporating extended techniques and exploring microtonal possibilities.

A prolific leader, Diaz has released several critically acclaimed albums as a bandleader including *Urban Grooves* (2002) and *Departure* (2015), showcasing his compositions and arrangements. He's a dedicated educator, currently serving as Professor of Bass Guitar at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. He also holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the same institution.
