Experience Horacio Martínez
Horacio “El Negro” Martínez (born January 27, 1941, in Rosario, Argentina) is a highly respected Argentine jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. A pivotal figure in Argentine jazz since the 1960s, Martínez initially gained prominence accompanying tango singers like Astor Piazzolla – notably on Piazzolla’s *Operita* (1967) and contributing arrangements to *El Arrabal Amargo* (1968).
However, he quickly established himself as a leading force in modern jazz, incorporating elements of tango and folklore into his improvisational style. He founded the Jazz Club Moderno in Rosario in 1965, a crucial venue for developing local talent. Martínez spent extended periods in the US during the 70s and 80s, studying with Lennie Tristano and performing with prominent American musicians.
His discography includes numerous albums as a leader, including *Presente y Futuro* (1973), *Rapsodia Argentina* (1984), and collaborations with Lalo Schifrin.
