Florence Joelle, born Florence Welch in 1986, is the vocalist, primary songwriter, and figurehead of the indie rock band Florence + The Machine. Emerging from the London music scene in 2006, the band gained prominence with their debut album *Lungs* (2009), featuring the breakthrough single “Dog Days Are Over.” Joelle’s distinctive vocal delivery – powerful, emotive, and often described as operatic – is central to the band’s sound.
Her songwriting frequently explores themes of love, loss, femininity, and spirituality, drawing inspiration from Romantic poetry and pre-Raphaelite art. Subsequent albums including *Ceremonials* (2011), *How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful* (2015), *High as Hope* (2018) and *Dance Fever* (2022) have consistently achieved critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching number one in both the UK and US charts.
