Experience DJ Food

DJ Food, born Patrick Carpenter in 1969, is a highly influential British electronic musician and DJ, pivotal in the development of instrumental hip-hop and nu jazz. Initially gaining recognition in the early 1990s as part of the Unique 3 record label alongside fellow artists like DJ Dextrous and Strictly Kev, he pioneered sample-based music, drawing heavily from jazz, library music, and breakbeat sources.

His solo work, beginning with 1995’s *A Recipe for Disaster*, established a signature sound characterized by intricate layering, sophisticated arrangements, and a cinematic quality. Subsequent albums like *Clockwork* (1997) and *Kaleidoscope* (2001) further refined this style, earning critical acclaim.

Beyond album releases on labels like Ninja Tune, DJ Food is renowned for his “Delicious Dishes” compilation series – influential collections showcasing rare grooves and obscure samples. He's also created bespoke mixes for radio stations like BBC Radio 6 Music and toured extensively internationally. Notably, he collaborated with jazz trumpeter Byron Wallen on the album *The New Hang Suite* (2008), demonstrating his versatility.
