Dead Rider is the musical project of Chicago-based artist, Jonathan Fuller. Emerging in the late 2000s, Dead Rider initially gained recognition within the experimental and DIY music scenes, blending elements of American folk, noise rock, and free improvisation. Fuller’s work is characterized by heavily processed acoustic guitar, often utilizing extended techniques like prepared guitar and looping, alongside his distinctive, often narrative-driven vocals.

Early releases like the self-titled debut (2011) established a raw, lo-fi aesthetic. Subsequent albums on labels like Important Records (“July,” 2013) and Room40 (“The Ghost of Robert Johnson,” 2017 – a reimagining of Robert Johnson’s songs) showcased increasing sophistication in sound design and compositional complexity.

Dead Rider’s music frequently explores themes of mythology, American history, and personal introspection. Fuller has toured extensively across North America and Europe, both solo and with collaborators. He's been praised by publications like *The Wire* and *Pitchfork* for his unique sonic palette and compelling lyrical content.
