Chris Thomas King is an American blues musician, singer, songwriter, and actor, deeply rooted in the Mississippi Delta blues tradition. Born in 1944 in Hughes, Arkansas, he’s the grandson of legendary bluesman Mississippi John Hurt – a lineage profoundly shaping his musical style. King initially gained recognition in the 1990s with a series of critically acclaimed albums for Verve Records, including *Barefootin’* (1997) which showcased his raw, authentic Delta blues sound alongside innovative interpretations.
He's known for his energetic performances featuring fingerpicking guitar work and powerful vocals. Beyond traditional blues, King incorporates elements of country, rockabilly and even hip-hop influences into his music – notably collaborating with rapper Ice Cube on the soundtrack for the film *Friday*. This crossover appeal broadened his audience significantly.
King has acted in several films including *O Brother, Where Art Thou?* (2000), performing “Hard Time Blues” on the soundtrack and appearing onscreen. He continues to tour and record, remaining a vital figure in preserving and evolving the Delta blues legacy.
