Carminho (born Carmina Rita Ferreira, July 17, 1984) is a leading figure in contemporary Fado, revitalizing the traditional Portuguese genre with her innovative approach. Initially classically trained in piano and singing, she transitioned to Fado under the tutelage of Argentina Santos, a renowned *fadista*. Her self-titled debut album in 2005 garnered critical acclaim and established her as a rising star.

Carminho distinguishes herself through a vocal style characterized by its emotional depth, technical precision, and willingness to experiment beyond traditional arrangements. She incorporates influences from jazz, Brazilian music, and classical forms into her Fado performances. This has broadened the genre’s appeal internationally.

She has released several acclaimed albums including "Alma" (2009), “Relíquias” (2011), and “Canto” (2014), consistently topping Portuguese charts. Notably, she was the first Fado artist to perform at Carnegie Hall (2016). Collaborations include work with artists like Iván Lins and contributions to film soundtracks like *Listen* starring Rebecca Ferguson.
