Broken Twin is the musical project of Icelandic-American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Janina Tettere. Originally based in Melbourne, Australia, she now resides in Reykjavík, Iceland. Her career began with self-released EPs before signing to 4AD in 2015, releasing her debut album *Between Us* that same year. The album garnered critical acclaim for its atmospheric dream-pop soundscapes and Tettere’s distinctive, often layered vocals.
Musically, Broken Twin blends elements of dream pop, shoegaze, and ambient electronica with a strong emphasis on melodic songwriting. Her work is characterized by ethereal textures created through synthesizers, guitars, and processed vocals – often drawing comparisons to artists like Cocteau Twins and Beach House.
Following *Between Us*, she released *Darkroom* (2017), further exploring themes of memory and isolation. In 2023, Broken Twin released *Side B,* a companion piece to *Darkroom* featuring reimagined tracks and previously unreleased material. She has toured extensively supporting acts like Beach House and Cigarettes After Sex, solidifying her presence within the independent music scene.
