Big Brave is a Montreal-based post-metal band formed in 2015, currently consisting of Robin Wattie (guitar/vocals), Mathieu Ball on bass, and J.R. Yurdin on drums. Initially a power trio, they’ve become known for their intensely heavy, slow-burning compositions that blend elements of doom metal, drone, and noise rock. Their sound is characterized by Wattie’s powerfully emotive vocals – often delivered with a spoken-word intensity – layered over monolithic riffs and expansive instrumental passages.
The band gained recognition with their self-titled debut album in 2017, followed by *Blasphemous Offerings* (2019) and *Nature Morte* (2021), the latter receiving critical acclaim from publications like Pitchfork and Decibel Magazine. In 2023, they released *Atlas*, further refining their dynamic range while maintaining their signature crushing weight.
Big Brave has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, sharing stages with acts like Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Converge. They are signed to Southern Lord Records, a label renowned for its commitment to heavy and experimental music.
