The Princess Theatre – Center for the Performing Arts, located in Decatur, Georgia, originally opened as a movie house on December 26, 1926. Designed by architect Albert Levy, the building exemplified the atmospheric theatre style popular in the 1920s, featuring an interior designed to resemble a Spanish courtyard. It operated as a single-screen cinema until 1986.

Following a period of disuse and potential demolition, DeKalb County purchased the property in 1993. A subsequent restoration project, completed in 1997 at a cost of $4.8 million, transformed the space into a multi-purpose performing arts center. The renovation retained many original architectural details while adding modern amenities.

Today, the Princess Theatre hosts a diverse range of events including concerts spanning genres like jazz, blues, folk, and classic rock; theatrical productions; dance performances; film screenings; and community events. The venue’s seating capacity is approximately 450. Its intimate setting and restored aesthetic contribute to its appeal as a unique cultural hub within Decatur and the wider Atlanta metropolitan area. The theatre also offers rental space for private events and functions as an educational resource for local students through various outreach programs.
