The Brick Presbyterian Church, located at 77th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City, was constructed between 1875 and 1877 to designs by architect William Potter. Replacing an earlier church on the site, the current building is a prominent example of High Victorian Gothic architecture, characterized by its brownstone facade, pointed arches, and substantial spire reaching 168 feet. Interior features include stained-glass windows created by Tiffany Studios and a large tracker action pipe organ originally built by Hilgermann & Hartway in 1876 and subsequently rebuilt by various firms including E.M. Skinner.

While functioning as an active Presbyterian congregation, the church has become increasingly recognized as a unique performance space for adventurous music. Since approximately 2009, it has hosted numerous experimental and avant-garde musical performances, frequently featuring composers and performers associated with contemporary classical music, noise music, and free improvisation. The church’s acoustics are particularly well-suited to these genres due to its high ceilings and reverberant space. The Brick Church hosts events organized by independent presenters rather than directly managing a concert series itself. Its distinctive setting within a historic religious structure differentiates it from typical concert halls or clubs within New York City’s music landscape.
