Experience Tennessee Performing Arts Center
The Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC), located in downtown Nashville, is a cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape. Originally opening in 1980 as the James K. Polk Theater (a renovation of the existing 1927 movie palace), it expanded significantly with the addition of Jackson Hall in 1996 and the Andrew Jackson Hall in 2006. TPAC isn’t solely a music venue; it hosts Broadway shows, concerts, dance performances, comedy, and speaker series.
Architecturally, TPAC blends historic preservation with modern design. The original Polk Theater retains much of its Art Deco elegance while newer halls offer state-of-the-art acoustics and sightlines. Jackson Hall is particularly known for its grand scale and ability to accommodate large touring Broadway productions.
Nashville's rich musical heritage is reflected in TPAC's programming which frequently features country, bluegrass, and Americana artists alongside classical and pop performances. It has hosted iconic performers across genres and serves as a key venue during CMA Fest. Unique amenities include multiple performance spaces allowing for diverse events simultaneously, accessible seating throughout, and pre-function spaces ideal for receptions and gatherings.
