Experience Skinny Dennis
Skinny Dennis, located in East Nashville, Tennessee, is a honky-tonk bar steeped in local music history. Originally built as a small grocery store in 1952 by Dennis Jennings (hence the name), it operated as such until the late 1990s. Jennings, a prominent figure in the early Nashville music scene and known for fostering talent like Steve Earle, informally hosted jam sessions within the store for decades.
The building retains much of its original mid-century architecture, contributing to its distinctly unpretentious and authentically “Nashville” vibe. It officially transitioned into a full-fledged music venue around 2008, becoming a cornerstone of the burgeoning East Nashville Americana and roots music community.
Skinny Dennis is renowned for showcasing traditional country, bluegrass, swing, and rockabilly acts – often featuring both established artists and up-and-coming musicians. Unlike many polished venues on Broadway, Skinny Dennis maintains a deliberately divey atmosphere with limited seating and a focus on raw musical performance.
