Rough Trade NYC, located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, opened in November 2013 as an extension of the original Rough Trade record store founded in London in 1976. The space occupies a 3,000-square-foot industrial building formerly utilized as a carpenter’s workshop. Its design incorporates exposed brick and high ceilings, maintaining a raw aesthetic reflective of the surrounding area.

Beyond its function as a retail record store carrying an extensive selection of vinyl, CDs, and music-related merchandise, Rough Trade NYC features a performance space hosting over 200 shows annually. The venue regularly showcases artists spanning indie rock, alternative, electronic, and experimental genres.

Notable performances have included in-store sets and intimate concerts by artists such as St. Vincent, Arcade Fire, and LCD Soundsystem. A key feature is its dedicated listening station area allowing customers to sample records before purchase. The venue also operates a café serving coffee and light refreshments. Rough Trade NYC has become a significant hub for the New York City music community fostering both established and emerging talent while preserving the experience of physical music consumption.
