Experience Presale - Canberra Theatre Centre
Canberra Theatre Centre is the Australian Capital Territory’s premier performing arts venue, opening in 1965 as part of Canberra’s centennial celebrations. Designed by Walter Bunning, its Brutalist architecture – featuring striking concrete forms – is a landmark example of mid-20th century Australian design. The Centre comprises three performance spaces: the 891-seat Playhouse, the 1,400-seat Concert Hall (home to regular performances by the Canberra Symphony Orchestra), and the intimate 336-seat Courtyard Theatre.
Throughout its history, the Centre has hosted a diverse range of performances including theatre, dance, opera, ballet, musical theatre and a significant program of contemporary and classical music. Artists spanning diverse genres – from internationally acclaimed orchestras to popular music acts – frequently appear on its stages.
Unique to the Centre is its strong connection to national institutions; it often hosts events linked to Parliament House and the National Gallery. Recent renovations have enhanced accessibility and patron amenities, including upgraded seating and bar facilities. It remains a vital hub for cultural exchange and artistic expression within Canberra and nationally.
