Experience Opera City Concert Hall

Opera City Concert Hall, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, opened in 1997 as part of the larger Opera City complex. Designed by renowned architect Takahiko Yanagisawa, the hall is celebrated for its “vineyard” style seating arrangement – inspired by the famed vineyard terraces of Bordeaux – providing exceptional acoustics and sightlines from every seat. This design minimizes distance between performers and audience, fostering intimacy despite the hall’s 1,999-seat capacity.

The hall primarily hosts classical music performances, including orchestral concerts by leading Japanese and international ensembles like the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, but also features jazz, contemporary music, and occasionally opera and musical theatre. Its adjustable stage allows for versatile configurations suited to diverse productions.

Beyond its acoustics, Opera City Concert Hall boasts a large pipe organ built by Rieger Orgelbau Austria, a rare feature in Japanese concert halls. The complex also includes galleries and a cinema, contributing to a vibrant arts hub within Shinjuku. It quickly became a significant venue within Tokyo’s classical music landscape, known for its high production values and commitment to artistic excellence.
