Ohio Stadium, affectionately known as “The Horseshoe” or “The Shoe,” opened in 1922 in Columbus, Ohio, primarily as a football stadium for The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Designed by Howard Dwight Smith, its distinctive horseshoe shape – completed in phases culminating in 1924 – initially held 66,207 spectators and now boasts a capacity exceeding 102,780, making it the fourth-largest stadium in the world.

Beyond football, Ohio Stadium has hosted numerous large-scale concerts since the 1990s, featuring artists across genres like rock (The Rolling Stones, Metallica), country (Kenny Chesney), and pop (Taylor Swift). Its sheer size allows for elaborate stage productions rarely seen at other venues. Unique to stadium concerts here is the “Skull Session” tradition adapted for musical events – pre-show tailgating with a vibrant atmosphere.

Historically significant as a symbol of Ohio State pride, the stadium's architecture blends Collegiate Gothic and Art Deco styles. Recent renovations include upgraded sound systems and expanded concourses to enhance the concert experience.
