Experience Nathan Phillips Square

Nathan Phillips Square, located in the heart of downtown Toronto, is a bustling public space steeped in history. Originally known as Queen’s Park Square, it was renamed in 1960 to honour Toronto’s first mayor, Nathan Phillips. The square is architecturally defined by its iconic Toronto Sign, installed in 2015, and the modernist Old City Hall and New City Hall buildings framing its perimeter.

Throughout the year, Nathan Phillips Square hosts numerous free public events, most notably Cavalcade of Lights during the winter holidays and various festivals throughout the summer. It's a frequent venue for large-scale concerts spanning diverse genres – from rock and pop to world music and classical performances – often utilizing a temporary stage setup. While not a dedicated music venue with permanent acoustics, its vast open space allows for exceptionally large crowds (tens of thousands) which distinguishes it from typical concert halls or clubs.

Historically, it’s been a focal point for political demonstrations and celebrations, including major sporting event victory rallies. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, reflecting pools (converted to skating rinks in winter), and seasonal food vendors.
