Experience Lpr

The Lpr (formerly known as the Knitting Factory) is a music venue located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Originally established in 1987 by Michael Dorf, the Knitting Factory quickly became a cornerstone of the downtown alternative music scene, showcasing experimental jazz, avant-garde rock, and spoken word performances. The original location on Houston Street operated until 2009.

The venue relocated and was rebranded as Lpr in 2011, occupying a former theater space built in the 1920s. The building’s architecture retains elements of its early 20th-century origins, featuring high ceilings and a flexible layout that accommodates both seated and standing audiences.

Lpr continues to host a diverse range of artists spanning indie rock, electronic music, hip-hop, and world music. It has hosted performances by artists including FKA twigs, St. Vincent, and Sharon Van Etten. A notable feature is its emphasis on live streaming capabilities, offering broadcasts of many performances. The venue also includes a bar and lounge area designed to foster a community atmosphere. Lpr frequently serves as a launchpad for emerging artists alongside established acts, maintaining its commitment to artistic innovation within New York City’s vibrant musical landscape.
