Experience L'Atelier Du Plateau / Théâtre Ecarlate

L'Atelier Du Plateau, now operating as Théâtre Écarlate, is a historic performance space located in the Oberkampf district of Paris’s 11th arrondissement. Originally built in 1889 as a dance hall called Le Plateau, it underwent several transformations – including a period as a cinema – before becoming a dedicated theatre and concert venue in the 1990s. The building retains much of its Belle Époque architecture, featuring high ceilings and an intimate, slightly worn charm.

Known for its eclectic programming, Théâtre Écarlate champions emerging artists and alternative performances. It’s particularly renowned for hosting indie rock, electronic music (often with a focus on French Touch influences), and contemporary theatre productions. The venue regularly features live bands, DJ sets, and spoken word events. Unlike larger Parisian halls, Écarlate offers a notably close connection between performers and audience; the standing-room-only format fosters an energetic atmosphere. It’s become a key location for discovering new talent within Paris' vibrant independent music scene and has hosted early performances by artists who have gone on to wider recognition. A small bar area provides refreshments during events.
